Boogie Club, Don't Do It!

Don't Do It! Boogie
2001/2002
Flyer by Tim Dutcher & Dave Ruder

EDIT 1/14/13:

Wow! Hunter King '08, Boogie Emeritus, has been all over this since 2010! Go to Boogie Club is Dead for more flyers, more explanation, and more comments.

These flyers come at us from Dave Ruder '05. Maybe the Boogie Club is still around? The Boogie Club, well, boogied to jamz in public places for lost causes (like abstinence, as you can see). Some ones I remember were the Secret Boogie (under a sheet), the Silent Boogie (no music), and the Doug Bennet Boogie to Bring Back Methodism to Wesleyan (below, with Doug B. in a Burger King hat - interestingly, I discovered this just last week on an external hard drive I've had since 2003 - good timing!)

Maybe some Boogie-ers would like to add to this description or contribute more flyers, since I was at best a peripheral member. Dave says:

pamphlet from Boogie for Abstinence, either late 2001 or early 2002, outside the Campus Center.  Made by Tim Dutcher with an assist from me at Tim's place.  Not a poster per se, but pretty pertinent I think.  The cock fight is the front panel, the Washington monument is the pay off of unfolding it.  That boogie involved a lot of shed layers and grinding if memory serves.  I'd say it couldn't have been middle of winter given that, but that was a year it was 80 degrees in February, so it was sometime after October and before the spring.  It was a fun time.

Thanks a billion Dave for sending in this stuff! Send me your posters from Wesleyan, Boogie memories, etc: wesleyanposterarchive@gmail.com

  1. I've actually been scanning boogie club flyers at boogieclubisdead.blogspot.com once every 400 years

    1. You'd have to ask some more serious Boogiers (I know the person in the photo is named Beth and graduated in 2004/5-ish), but I think they crowned him during his office hours and then he got up and boogied down! True story: Midge Bennett once grabbed me to join a conga line with her in MoCon!

    2. This was before I was a freshman (2004) but from what I remember hearing the photo is from a boogie urging for the return of Feudalism. I believe they went to his office and crowned him king. Surprisingly, Doug Bennet was always a supporter of Boogie Club and would usually contribute a (mostly unimpressive) move when passing through a move. We cited his departure as one of the reasons we ended boogie.

He also agreed to be a guest announcer on my surf show on WESU, which was incredibly awkward

  4. Yeah, it's Bess Thaler '04, head Boogier after Tim D graduated and before Sarah L '06. I actually missed that boogie...
